Oatmeal with mixed berry compote

Delicious, warming oatmeal with mixed berry compote.

Oats will always be one of my favourite foods to eat at breakfast. They’re not just filling, but full of beta-glucans, which are known to reduce cholesterol. Oats are more abundant in protein, calcium and essential fatty acids than most grains too.

I usually top my oats with fresh fruit once cooked, but today I decided to switch things up with a berry compote. To be honest, I had loads of fruit in the fridge that weren’t fresh enough to eat but hadn’t quite gone off. Berry compote to the rescue!

Berry compotes are the simplest things to make. All you need is a selection of berries and sugar. You can make it more flavourful by adding a pinch of cinnamon and vanilla if you wish. Otherwise, berries and sugar will do just fine.
