Vegan Grocery List for week of 15 April 2017

I’m a bit behind on posting my vegan grocery shopping list, sorry.

You will notice that some of the fruits I bought last week were organic and others were not. I make a point to only buy organic strawberries and apples, but I’m little more relaxed with the other fruits.

The reason why I choose to eat only the organic varieties of strawberries and apples is because farmers grow the non-organic versions with a lot of pesticides. Infact, they are among the dirty dozen – the foods that are the most important to buy organic.

Just incase you don’t know which fruits/vegetables make up the dirty dozen, they include (from worst to bad):

  • Apples
  • Strawberries
  • Grapes
  • Celery
  • Peaches
  • Spinach
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Nectarines
  • Cucumbers
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Snap peas
  • Potatoes

I try to buy the organic versions of all the produce on the list, but if they’re unavailable I buy the non-organic versions. Also, if the cost of my shopping basket goes above my budget, I swap things around.

That said, I hardly ever compromise when it comes to apples and strawberries. I’ll rather not have them.

On a side note, if you have not tried white flesh sweet potatoes, omg! you’re seriously missing out on a good thing. I’ve basically ditched the orange flesh variety now because they don’t taste half as good as the white flesh variety at all!

Seriously, give them a go.
